Stainless Steel Beer Kegs and Barrels (DIN, EURO) — How Does Buying, Valuation and Recycling Work?

Beer Kegs and Barrels — What Are They and Why Is It Worth Taking Them to a Buying Point?

Stainless steel kegs and beer barrels are reusable containers that circulate between breweries, distributors and catering establishments. Over time, however, some of them end up in warehouses or cellars, or fall out of use — broken valves, discontinued formats, business closures. Instead of taking up valuable space, they can be taken to a buying point in exchange for real cash.

At the Skup Butelek Poznań collection point at ul. Górecka 6, we accept stainless steel kegs and barrels in DIN and EURO standards — regardless of their technical condition. Stainless steel is a valuable secondary raw material that, once melted down, re-enters industrial circulation, making the entire process fully ecological and in line with the principles of a circular economy.

Keg Standards — DIN vs EURO. What Do We Buy?

Two dominant standards of stainless steel beer barrels operate on the Polish and European market:

• DIN kegs — German standard, popular among craft breweries and large corporations. Most common capacities: 10 l, 20 l, 30 l, 50 l.
• EURO kegs — European standard, widely used by distributors and restaurants. Typical capacities: 15 l, 20 l, 25 l, 30 l, 50 l.

We buy both standards. We accept individual units from private individuals as well as larger batches from restaurateurs, pubs, beverage wholesalers and companies closing down their catering operations. You can find detailed rates in our stainless steel keg and barrel buying price list.

How Does Keg Buying Work in Poznań? Step by Step

1. Come In or Ask for a Wholesale Valuation

If you have a few kegs to hand in, you can simply come directly to our collection point at ul. Górecka 6 in Poznań. We have a large, convenient car park that allows even larger delivery vehicles to pull up — you can unload crates, kegs and other returnable containers without any difficulty.

If you have a larger batch of barrels or want to agree on buying terms before you arrive, use the online wholesale valuation and quote request option. We respond promptly and provide specific rates.

2. Weighing and On-Site Valuation

Once the kegs are brought in, our member of staff weighs them on a certified scale. The buying price is determined based on the weight in kilograms — stainless steel is priced according to current market rates. You need not worry about undervalued quotes — we apply fair, market-based prices, and the entire process is transparent and takes place in front of you.

3. Cash on the Spot

Payment is made immediately after weighing — in cash, without unnecessary formalities. You do not need to present a receipt or any purchase documents for the kegs. The only thing we ask for in transactions above the statutory threshold is to present a form of identification — this is required by law and results from our registration in the BDO system (Database of Products and Packaging and Waste Management), which guarantees that the entire buying process is fully legal.

How Much Can You Get for a Stainless Steel Keg?

The buying price of kegs and beer barrels depends on several factors:

• Keg weight — a standard 50 l DIN keg weighs approximately 12–14 kg (without beer), with smaller formats weighing proportionally less.
• Current stainless steel price — like any raw material, stainless steel is subject to market fluctuations, so buying prices may change.
• Technical condition — we accept both functional and damaged barrels, although their value may differ slightly.
• Quantity — for larger batches, more favourable wholesale rates can be agreed upon.

You can always find current rates in our keg buying price list. We also invite you to browse the full returnable packaging buying price list in Poznań, where you will find rates for bottles, crates and other containers.

What Else Do We Buy? Bottles, Crates and Returnable Packaging

Skup Butelek Poznań is not just about barrels and kegs. If you also have other returnable containers to hand in, we will be happy to accept them:

• Returnable glass bottles — beer, soft drinks, juices. Check our returnable beer bottle buying price list.
• Soft drink and cola bottles — details in the soft drink and cola bottle buying price list.
• Plastic beer crates — beer crates in various formats. Prices available in the plastic beer crate buying price list.

We buy bottles without requiring a receipt — just come in, hand over the containers and receive cash. We operate both within the existing deposit system and are preparing to serve customers under Poland's newly introduced deposit return scheme for beverage containers.

A very diverse range of customers uses our services:

• Wholesalers and beverage distributors — regular drop-off of larger batches of barrels and returnable bottles.
• Shops and grocery stores — handing in returnable bottles collected from retail customers.

If you run a catering business or a shop and would like to establish ongoing cooperation terms, contact us via the online quote request form — we will prepare an individual offer for you.

Keg Recycling — What Happens to the Stainless Steel After Collection?

The stainless steel from which kegs are made is a 100% recyclable material. After being collected and sorted, it is sent to steelworks where it is melted down and processed into new material — without any loss of properties. This means that handing in a keg is not only a way to earn money, but also a real contribution to environmental protection: reducing the extraction of metal ores, lowering CO₂ emissions and cutting down on industrial waste.

Our collection point operates in accordance with waste management legislation and is registered in the BDO system, giving you the assurance that the containers you hand over will be processed legally and responsibly.
